  • Grow with Your Girl (part1)

Dolls and Lovies may still grace her bedroom floor in minesweeper quantities. But your little girl is beginning to curve in conspicuous places and all of a sudden she wants more involvement in grown-up things. Don’t fight the process but join in.  Grow alongside your girl. Craft together My girl loves messy, sparkly crafts.  She loves scraps and glue and scissors.  Though at times she wants to accomplish her project unaided, often she wants to try her hand at more complicated and mature crafts. Sprout and I worked together and learned how to make candles. Armed with a 40% off coupon we charged into Hobby Lobby and chose a soy…

  • Spring Break & Cabin Fever

It’s April. The cold is slowly leaving the world. The sun is shining. The days are longer… especially the school days. Yikes! Like a run on sentence, they just keep going and going with no end in sight and no obvious destination or point. How do you combat 4th quarter blues in your homeschool? Here’s my 3 tips for combating homeschool battle fatigue: Change Locales Get out of your house! Really! Right now! Do equations…

  • Your Church doesn’t Support Homeschooling?

It’s wild! Your family thinks you’re nuts. But you know, in your core, you’ve been called to home educate your kids. Your conviction is deep. This is what God is leading your family to do. Even, your husband knows it. And you’ve told your family. They might not be pleased. But at least you’ll be able to get the support you need at church. Until… you don’t! Shock. Confusion. Tiny twinges of frustration and disappointment ripple through you. You’re doing what you believe is right. Your choice to obey God’s call to homeschool comes with its share of sacrifices. • Late Night Brew How to

So, I don’t call it Late Night Coffee Moms for nothing. This mama’s first cup of hot fresh coffee usually comes late at night once everyone is resting. That’s also when I get creative. You can often find me writing away while my coffee steams beside me. Here’s my favorite way to brew: 1- Get your Favorite Coffee You all know my favorite is the Dark Side Blend by Abide Coffee Roasters. I like to grind my beans right before brewing. But if you don’t have beans your favorite ground coffee will do. 2- Heat your Water I use an Instant Hot Kettle. It’s just faster and I want my…

  • Defeating Depression Daily

Depression is always a touchy subject.  Is it a real diagnosis?  Is it a mind game? Is it a chemical imbalance or genetics? Is it moodiness and personality?  Is it spiritual warfare or a sign of spiritual immaturity?  Maybe it’s all of the above or none at all.  But to talk about it I’ll need to open up and get raw honest.  So, just imagine we’re kicking back in my messy living room, mugs of mocha in our mitts, and let’s chat as friends. My story I was diagnosed with depression as a teenager, though I’m certain it was haunting me at a much younger age.  At 17, I was…

  • Haphazard Hospitality

As a child, I loved to watch my mother visit with friends in our living room. I enjoyed listening to adult conversations and laughter. I delighted in the grown-up snacks and treats. I used to beg my mother to have friends over. I didn’t really care who as long as I could participate or lounge around in their presence. What I hated about having company was the cleaning beforehand. I despised the dusting and polishing. I loathed shopping, staying neat and waiting. I remember haughtily tell my mother “When I grow up I will always be prepared for guests. I will have my living room clean. Candles lit and glowing. Music…
