Mom and Me reads: For Littles

When they’re snuggled in your lap it’s hard to imagine them off saving the world and having their own adventures. Prepare your girl’s heart with a few courage inducing books. My girl and I loved these:

Heidi

I think the book Heidi gets a bad rap. People see images of Shirley Temple or other actresses who’ve portrayed the compassionate mountain girl and think they know the whole scoop. You don’t! Heidi is brimming with teachable moments, easily absorbed through the story alone. Death, greed, hope, friendship, tough love, stubbornness, selflessness, illness, and even learning struggles pour from the pages in an easy fashion. Not too preachy but filled with Gospel moments, Heidi is a treasure your library shouldn’t be without. My girl and I enjoy listening to it as well as reading it. Check out the free audio here.

The Saturdays

The Melendy Quartet starts with the Saturdays. Four siblings seek adventure and find it, each in their own way. All 4 books are excellent and grow alongside the reader. Again, we enjoy reading them and listening to them.

From the Mixed of Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankwieler

Ever wanted to runaway? What about bath in a water fountain? Do it! With this story. Run away to museum to discover mysteries in art and in yourself. That’s what the MC’s do in this delightful book.

Stories from Grandma’s Attic

Filled with charming and historical stories, Grandma’s Attic brings the past to the present. It makes you laugh while growing character. You’ve gotta give this book a try, with your girl. Or maybe, gift it to Grandma to read to your girl during sleepovers.

Let me know which one’s you’ve read with your girl in the comments below. What’s your favorite laptime girl book?
