Bridal Shower Books

I remember being a young, naive bride to be working the cash register at a local store. A newlywed customer rented a few videos and spilled the wisdom of six months of marriage. “It’s hard work” I remember rolling my eyes and uttering back in my wisecracking fashion, “If it is real love it shouldn’t be.” The wife huffed, returned my eye rolling, and left the counter shaking her head. Oh, the ignorance of inexperience and the wisdom of hindsight. Less than a few weeks into my own marriage and I was on my knees begging God and anyone who would listen for help.

These are the books that guided me most through the shadowy edges of ever after. They’re also my go-to Bridal Shower gifts. Check them out and let me know what you think. (This post contains affiliate links. Just thought you’d like to know.)

The Good Girl’s Guide to Great Sex

I can’t recommend this book enough!!! It revolutionized my bedroom and helped heal my heart. I didn’t even know it was broken! In this book, Sheila deals with topics every bride should know. The birds and the bees, birth control, childhood abuse, and second chance virginity are just a few of her topics. Most Brides, I know, are both embarrassed and delighted to receive Sheila’s help and conversational understanding in written form.

The Power of a Praying Wife

This book is just what it says it is, encouragement and hope wrapped up into one nugget of wisdom. Prayer! It’s never too early to envelope your husband and marriage in prayer. Start now, whether you’re married or not!

The Good Wife’s Guide…

Friendly and direct this book has it all. Tips on praying for your husband, pointers on household routines, and lots lots more. Among the many truths revealed in plain English, this book taught me how to really, really clean my bathroom. I love how it taught me how to do chores, imperfectly, without an attitude.

If My Husband Would Change…

Every wife has thought it. Not every wife is brave enough to admit it. Sometimes we all think if we could only make our husbands see our side of things and come to our side of the fight, we’d finally be happy. Rhonda shakes that emotional, irrational side of wife life and gets down to the real issue. Our happiness is not dependent on our husbands! It’s solely wrapped up in our relationship with God. Mixed with humor this convicting book will change your heart and revive your love for your husband.

Equipped to Love Idolatry-Free Relationships

This book is not a marriage book. It is a relationship book. Your relationship with God and how it’s reflected in your relationships with others. Do you find yourself bitter, frustrated, and angry at everyone? Maybe it has less to do with them and more about the pedestal you placed them on. Norm Wakefield is your guy for setting your heart back on the eternal and thus reinvigorating your life and your relationships.

Try out a book or two and tell me what you think. Because marriage is hard work! No matter what my 20 year old self says!

Besides the Bible and your best friend where do you turn for marriage advice? What books or speakers have motivated you to keep trying?

What do you think?
