Meet Our Math Time Buddy

Dyslexia is a giving disability. It gives us trouble in reading, trouble in writing, and trouble in math. This equals hands-on Mom and me school time, all day long. When my student was still little this was a blessing. It was a time to reassure and comfort my struggling learner. The older my student gets the more independence they crave and the more frustrated they become when they NEED mom’s help.

Enter Teaching Textbooks

After hours of repeated and laborious instruction in reading and writing, the last thing my mother/child relationship needs is another round in math.  Teaching Textbooks works fabulously for my struggling learner.  I oversee everything, from a distance, while they are read directions and lectures by the program.

Armed with a whiteboard and marker, they tackle math with a smile.  Why?  Why do Teaching Textbooks work so well for my student?

  • The software talks to the student. It’s conversational and uplifting in tone.

  • My student knows immediately if their answer is correct or incorrect
  • In a new feature, one can instantly tell which lessons they’ve completed and which they need to do next.
  • There’s instant praise for right answers and encouragement for wrong ones
  • Teaching Textbooks offers hints to students (at the teacher’s discretion) – These are offered before a student tackles a hard problem and fails –  my student rarely uses hints but is comforted knowing they are available
  • Instant try again option for wrongly answered problems (again at the teacher’s discretion)
  • My student’s favorite bit- the BUDDIES.  Little, animated, avatars that cheer my student on and perform for tricks for correct answers
  • My favorite bit- the confidence it offers my child

The more we use it the more we love it

Teaching Textbooks just keeps getting better.  At first, my family purchased the textbook and CD kits for each grade level.  Though lovely, the textbooks were bulky and the teacher’s guide was unnecessary.  The software held all the answers and the lecture notes.

Since my student battle with dysgraphia as well as dyslexia, the workbooks offered more of a struggle than a help.  We quickly set them aside and let them collect dust.  Instead, my kiddo uses a whiteboard and graph paper to complete problems that are too overwhelming to wrestle mentally.

The new 3.0 upgrade is amazing. It took less than a minute to set up and hosts all the CD software and more.  I can access it on almost any device.  Instead of the bulky textbooks, it offers ebooks. That means my child can finish math in the car or on the couch. I can view and edit the grade book in bed or while waiting in the drive-thru.

The same encouraging voices lead lectures and encourage the student and all new buddies make math time fun for my student.  The subscription, per level, lasts 12 months, but they give you 3 months of pause time.  You can pause it during Christmas and Summer and lose nothing! 3.0 also hangs on to your grades for you, making it my accountability partner and giving me one less thing to keep track of.   All this and it’s LESS EXPENSIVE than before!

Curious if it will work for your family?  TT 3.0 has a very generous free trial.  Not sure what level you should try? No worries, Teaching Textbooks has you covered. They offer free placement tests to fit your child to just the right level. You get to try out any level without handing out your credit card information. It’s that FREE!  Try it and let me know what you think.
