  • All this & Dyslexia, too

The worst kind of Shiny New Curriculum fail happens when you’ve dedicated time, energy, money, and hope to a new program to help your struggling learner. I know I’ve lived it. It burns. And in the midst of recovering, recalibrating, rebuilding, and planning sneaks in doubt and defeat. A little voice that nibbles on a homeschool mama’s heart and tells you can’t handle all this and dyslexia too. (feel free to replace your own acronyms or labels.) Getting back on the homeschool horse seems more than daunting. But you can do it! Bury your Guilt I know you’ve got it. Homeschool mama guilt. Shake it off. Kick it to the…

  • Planning for a Shiny New Year

You’ve survived another year of homeschooling. Maybe it didn’t work out just like you planned. Perhaps there’s an unopened box of latin grammar sit scornfully under your desk. Or maybe you pushed so hard you lost all touch with who your kids really are. Thank the Lord for new beginnings. It’s time to get a fresh plan for a shiny new year. My Disclaimer! I am not a color coding – down to the second planner. I admire and sometimes envy those that are but I am not. I like to keep things simple and easy to see from a glance. Check out my video on record keeping to see…

  • Chase & Cling

I remember being a kid. The instant my Daddy got home, I’d hear his voice and come running. My sister took one leg and I took the other. We sat on his feet and let him drag us around the house until we fell off. Now, I do the same thing in my spiritual life. When Jesus calls me by name, I chase after Him, cling tight and do my utmost not to let go. How do you respond to Jesus? Have you responded to Him? He’s ready and waiting to let you cling to Him.

  • Gifts for Writer Moms

Need a last minute writer mom gift? Moms who write aren’t the easiest creatures to buy gifts for at Mother’s Day. They tend to be glued to their screens and imaginary worlds. As such it can be hard to get into their heads and find just the right gift to make them smile. Consider gifts that encourage them in their writing life and won’t break your budget. Here are a few suggestions for Writer Mom gifts: Blue Light Blocking Glasses A mom with a migraine can neither write nor mom to the best of her ability. Blue light blocking glasses help stave off headaches caused by hours straining at the…

  • Author Sarah Hualde

Come join me as I interview Indie Author Sarah Hualde.  What is the first book that made you cry? Bride to Terabithia by Katherine Paterson.   I wept until I couldn’t breath. Does writing energize or exhaust you? Both!  Mostly, I’m energized by writing.  Unless it’s deadline time.  Then it exhausts me.  Don’t even get me started about what editing does to me! Do you hide any secrets in your books that only a few people will find? Of course.  That’s one of the perks.  I get to expose inside jokes without calling out my comrades. Do you need music or noise to write? Or do you prefer silence? I need noise…

  • Late Night Coffee on Facebook

There are days I’m too exhausted to process one more written word. As a writer and book lover, I’m troubled by my own lack of brain space. I long to lounge on the couch and travel via the pages of a new book. I also am in desperate need of help and instruction, from time to time. But perusing another blog post or scouring Pinterest for just the right encouragement can be deflating. Does this sound familiar? I hear you. So, I’m busting out of my comfort zone and bringing you short videos every week. In addition to my weekly blog posts, it’s my aim to bring you daily Facebook…

  • Family Game Time

Christmas is coming.  That means gifts and for our family that means GAMES!!!  We love family game time.  During Christmas break, you can find us playing video games, board games, and card games.  The kids will often set up a card table and get a game board ready for when Dad gets home. We love love love games.   Here’s a few of our favorites:  The teenage boy likes:  Killer Bunnies,  Catan, and Machi Koro.  Each game involves strategy mixed with game time whimsy.  Each also has an element of dumb luck within its structure. Killer Bunnies: you can collect nearly all the magic carrots and still lose because you didn’t…
