All this & Dyslexia, too

The worst kind of Shiny New Curriculum fail happens when you’ve dedicated time, energy, money, and hope to a new program to help your struggling learner. I know I’ve lived it. It burns. And in the midst of recovering, recalibrating, rebuilding, and planning sneaks in doubt and defeat. A little voice that nibbles on a homeschool mama’s heart and tells you can’t handle all this and dyslexia too. (feel free to replace your own acronyms or labels.) Getting back on the homeschool horse seems more than daunting. But you can do it!

Bury your Guilt

I know you’ve got it. Homeschool mama guilt. Shake it off. Kick it to the curb and bury it in your backyard. You’re following a calling, remember? Not a whim. You may not be the perfect parent or perfect teacher but God is using your particular imperfections to guide you and your imperfect students closer to Him. Stop the guilt and continue to step two.

Build your Arsenal

Ask for help. Getting training on your particular battle. Homeschool conventions are great places to start. Here’s the one I frequent:

But there are many easy to fit in, inexpensive, and amazing aids out there. Here’s my favorite!

Homeschooling with Dyslexia

Marianne not only has extremely helpful blog posts, but she also offers very affordable online courses to help parents understand and teach their dyslexic students. Easy to follow, easy to understand, and taught on audio, video, or transcripts Marianne serves the special needs community with sincerity.

You can purchase classes individually or in a set, for big savings. Click the picture above to check them out for yourself.

I ran to Marianne the moment I got real and realized my student needed more help than I could give them without extra training. She offers a safe space to ask questions as you’re re-education yourself on educating your kiddo. My confidence was bolstered and in return, I was able to coach my student from a peaceful and encouraging mindset. It saved us both from meltdown and defeatism.

I can’t recommend her enough. Check her out. Get help. Be enlightened, encouraged, and empowered.

I’m cheering you on,
