Our School’s Stuff

Every homeschooling family runs differently.  Each child within each family learns differently. As a Christian homeschooler,  I do my utmost to put Christ at the center and leave the rest up to Him.  Our family curriculum has changed and changed again.  Our routines are in flux from season to season.  But with our core fixed on the Lord, we can’t go too far off the deep end.

Here’s a peek into our year.

2019-2019

What we’re using:

For most of our needs, we participate in  Classical Conversations Challenge A & 1. Check it out here: www.classicalconversations.com

But there are some things we need that CC doesn’t offer, yet. Like:

Reading and Spelling Remediation  =  Reading Horizons https://www.readinghorizons.com/reading-program-at-home/overview

Math for my struggling learner =  Teaching Textbooks https://www.teachingtextbooks.com/v/vspfiles/tt/FamilyV3.htm

Algebra 2 Life of Fred

Pathway Readers (they offer slower paced stories with PLOT, for my struggling learner) & Audible (especially when using Immersion reading!)

Teacher Supplies and Tutor Helpers:

Whiteboards and markers are a must.  Tabs are a tutor’s best buddy.  Gel highlighters stop the pages of our books from going wavy. As distractable as we are in my family, timers keep us going.  Scrabble tiles are a go-to for games, practice, review, and just plain fun.

Mom’s After A Hard Day Self Care Kit:

Homework headaches happen and stress paralysis is real.  Treat your tired brain to an audiobook, your weary eyes to an ice pack, and your muscles to a quicky deep tissue massage.  It works for this mom.

What we’ve used before and LOVED!

My Father’s World Books

We adored this nearly all in one curriculum. It’s massive amounts of information, it’s ease of use, and it’s knack for creating family bonding moments.  This formed our family’s elementary years and gave us all a bigger heart for missions.
