Upgrading with Teaching Textbooks

Dyslexia doesn’t stop with reading and writing. Math gets tossed into the mix- just for fun. After years of trying many curriculums, Teaching Textbooks came to our family’s rescue! Now, as I’m watching my kiddos grow and learn, I get to introduce you to the upgraded, improved, and still life-saving Teaching Textbooks 4.0.

Teaching Textbooks is a computer-based math program for elementary through High School. My family has used it for years! Not only does it instruct my kiddos in easy-to-understand, playful, humorous, and simple ways- but it also grades them for me. All I have to do is check their grade books and check in on their progress now and then. They get to rock math independently of me. This is a BIG DEAL in our household.

In our home, because special needs abound, it’s almost impossible to give my students independence in their work. I’m usually needed to scribe or dictate at the very least. Not with Teaching Textbooks.

Our 4 Favs of the overall program:

Their lectures are easy to understand and are accompanied by lively animated instructional videosā€”no need for me to explain the lesson before the work begins.

The homework is numbered. It counts down with my student and is predictable in length. This promotes focus for my kiddos as they don’t need to ask mom, “How many more until I’m done?”

My favorite thing about the lessons is the immediate feedback. If a problem is answered incorrectly the kid knows right away. They also get the opportunity to watch the program work through each problem. This means they’re not carving incorrect mathematic pathways in their brains. The opposite was true with worksheet-style lessons. My kid would finish the work- I would correct it- They’d re-do the incorrect problems. EXACTLY THE SAME WAY THEY ANSWERED BEFORE. Repeating the errors in their understanding, even for a problem or two made it a challenge to unlearn them. This does NOT happen with Teaching Textbooks. And my student’s comprehension shows it.

My kiddo’s favorite thing about Teaching Textbooks is the buddies- and now the new interactive wallpapers. They encourage uplift and bring humor to school life. It’s wonderful to watch my struggling learner enjoy their lessons and even giggle as they do their math. Who would have believed that was even possible? Not me. Not before this new upgrade!

Our 4 Favs of the Upgrade:

The Wallpapers: Much more interactive than the buddies used to be- Teaching Textbooks has outdone themselves with the animation and heart put into each Wallpaper. You truly have to see them. This offers one more dynamic and friendly way to coax and comfort my students into a traditionally challenging school subject. (PS: I love when the toast tells jokes- leave a note in the comments if you know what i”m talking about. )

The App on KIndle: This was a HUGE bonus of the Teaching Textbooks 4.0 upgrade! Each level now has an app. This means we download the app to our Kindles, login, and get to work. The App starts by downloading a few lessons- meaning if you’re in the car and your child is working you don’t have to worry about losing your connection. It also means during minor family emergencies, you can snag your Kindle (or another tablet/phone), and BOOM math is covered wherever you land.

Working on the go and the Scratchpad: In the app, there’s also a button that brings up a scratchpad for use on your touch screen device. Again, no need to cart along a notebook if you’re in a rush. It’s already included in your app.

The Continued Support: This one is a BIGGIE!!! Teaching Textbooks offers many backups in your child’s learning experience. HInts, do-overs, and reworking each problem through videos are available on every lesson. But did you know they also offer tutoring?

If you and your student have repeatedly tried to conquer a concept or particular problem, and you’ve gone through the do-overs hints and videos- you can call Teaching Textbooks and get one on one over-the-phone tutoring free of charge as a final “backstop” for struggling students. Talk about awesome customer service and caring support! Teaching Textbooks wants you and your students to succeed ad they’re there to help you on your way.
