Late Night Brew How to
So, I don’t call it Late Night Coffee Moms for nothing. This mama’s first cup of hot fresh coffee usually comes late at night once everyone is resting. That’s also when I get creative. You can often find me writing away while my coffee steams beside me.
Here’s my favorite way to brew:
1- Get your Favorite Coffee
You all know my favorite is the Dark Side Blend by Abide Coffee Roasters. I like to grind my beans right before brewing. But if you don’t have beans your favorite ground coffee will do.
2- Heat your Water
I use an Instant Hot Kettle. It’s just faster and I want my coffee now! You want your water super hot but not boiling.
3- Warm up your Mug and Press
In this method, I use my favorite french press. But before I scoop my grounds, I heat the press. Using warm tap water I fill the press and my awaiting mug. This keeps the heat of the brewing coffee from escaping too quickly. Before dumping your grounds into the press or your coffee into the mug, dump the water.
4- Measure and Pour
For a 34 oz French Press, like the one linked above, use about 9 TBS of fresh grounds. Normally, I only brew 12 oz for myself and that takes only 3 to 4 TBS. Also, I sprinkle the tiniest dash of
5- Wait 5 Minutes
This is the hardest part for me. The coffee just smells so yummy. But if you don’t wait it won’t brew and you’ll have wasted your beans.
6- Plunge
Do NOT stir! Let the oils alone. They’re a beautiful thing. Also, do not rush the plunge. Normally, I use the palm of my hand and count slowly to ten as I plunge.
7- Make Your Mug Happy
When you can no longer stand it, pour and enjoy. Be careful not to scorch your taste buds.
I love using a French Press. It makes drinking coffee an experience and a treat. As is always should be.
