3 of My Favorite Dyslexia Resources
Every family with over one child will tell you no two kids are the same. Especially in learning styles and strengths. In my home, we have many difficulties, some diagnose and some left undocumented. Dyslexia is one of the loudest in our homeschool. Here are three resources we use to battle dyslexia.
Let’s get straight to the list:
Homeschooling with Dyslexia— this fantastic resource is more than just a website. It’s a one-stop learning platform to teach you (the parent/teacher) how to live with and teach your dyslexic kiddo. Marrianne was my first stop to educate myself on how to educate my student. She’s also the first place I send my friends to get help.
Dyslexia Gold— HSLDA’s special needs advisor, introduced me to this resource. This app has everything from quick assessments to vision therapy games. We use it almost daily and have seen tremendous growth in just 30 minutes to 1 hour a day.
Blast Off to Reading— I bought this cheesy-looking book on a whim. I was cruising Amazon, looking for another miracle book to solve all our learning problems. (PS: that’s a joke. Such a book doesn’t exist.) But Blast Off to Reading comes close. For its amazingly low price, it offers an Orton-Gillingham approach to learning and tosses in a website filled with games and goodies to boot. The games are a lifesaver after hard lessons that provoke heightened emotions. – for the student and the teacher.
I’m not joking when I say these three resources for dyslexia have changed our homeschooling life. They’ve built me up as an instructor and encouraged my kid. Honest truth, my in real-life friends who have students with special needs hear about these three on repeat.
I can’t sing their praises enough.
Check them out and tell me what you think.
I’m cheering you on.
