Christmas Movies: 2021

This is the season for Hallmark and holiday classics. At my house, the movies are nearly as important as the decorations. Here’s a list of the Hualde family’s Christmas movies of 2021, clustered into our homemade categories. Some are old favs, and others are new fads.

XXX Be Advised not all movies are suitable for all ages. Use discretion and good judgment. XXX

Staples/Old Favorites

White Christmas: This one typically makes an early appearance during the season. Usually, even before the chilly weather sets in. It only makes sense.

Auntie Mame: Though not truly a Christmas movie, the Christmas scene during the Depression makes me smile every time and gets me in the mood to decorate.

Santa Conquers the Martians: This movie is as corny as it sounds. When the kids were little, we watched the original version. Since they’re teens, we also watch the MST3K version for the snarky satire.

It’s a Wonderful Life is a film that I can watch all year long. It feels like a member of my family. I don’t have to sit and stare at the screen to enjoy it since I know it by heart. The same goes for Charlie Brown’s Christmas (however, we usually watch it immediately after watching It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown making it the first Christmas film we watch all year.

New Found Delights

A Christmas Carol Goes Wrong: Careful! You’ll get hooked on the Goes Wrong Show and its hilarious movies and episodes. These “botched” performances can be edgier than the other movies mentioned, but they never fail to get my family snorting with laughter. We especially love Peter Pan goes Wrong.

Poirot’s Christmas: I’m sure this won’t shock you, given my love for Agatha Christie.

Mysteries

The Christmas Spirit: Time travel, ghosts, murder, and Christmas… just my cup of cocoa. I love this movie!

From Time to Time: We watch this gorgeous Julian Fellows movie all year long. Again, there’s murder, ghosts, and time travel. I’m catching the theme here. It’s an incredible story. Check it out if you like British Mysteries or Period Dramas. You won’t be disappointed.

Movies with their own Traditions

The Bishop’s Wife: Probably my all-time favorite Christmas movie. I usually wind up watching it late in the season. So late that my husband and I are known to wrap last-minute gifts while watching Cary Grant’s heartwarming performance.

Polar Express: Though my kids are older than the film’s target demographic, we watch this movie around the 23rd of December and always with hot chocolate and snacks.

The Christmas Card: This is one of my husbands’ favorite Christmas movies. We always order french fries- extra crispy to eat as we watch the movies.

There are many more films we pull into our family traditions. Maybe I’ll create a new list for next year. Christmas Movies: 2022

Please share your favorites with me in the comments. Maybe you’ll introduce a new tradition to our family.

Merry Christmas, and God bless you~
