Christmas Snuggles and Reads

Cold weather, steamy mugs, fuzzy blankets, and good reads go together like milk and cookies. Our family loves books. We love sharing adventures and learning about new and exciting lifestyles, together. We read to each other all year long. But no reading feels quite as magical as Christmas book reading.

Here are a few of our favorites:

THE FAMILY UNDER THE BRIDGE- A family fallen on hard times meets a streetwise drifter.  Along the way to becoming an unorthodox family, they meet Santa, hang out with gypsies, and discover all they need to feel rich is each other.  Warning:  I dare you to read this book without craving fresh crepes. My advice:  Keep some pancake mix and whipped cream handy.

ELOISE AT CHRISTMASTIME-  Let me tell you a secret… even my big kids love a great picture book.  Here’s another secret…  I love this book but it wears me out.  I kind of feel like that’s the point of the story.  Getting wrapped up in the childlike wonder and extreme excitability of the Christmas Season is definitely what Eloise is all about. As a mom, it leaves me exhausted but it’s a fun ride along the way.  Give it a shot.  Reading it in silly voices is highly advised.

LITTLE HOUSE CHRISTMAS TREASURY-  Some books never age, they’re always enduring and always special. The Little House books are staples in my home. But instead of pulling out volumes and re-reading entire sagas, this gem lets you revisit Little House during some its most magical moments. Laura gets a doll.  Pa gets lost in the snow.  Santa braves a flood.  And much much more.  A tiny snippet over hot cocoa is a great way to start your day or end it.

Listen when you can’t read

A CHRISTMAS CAROL-  A tradition and a favorite for generations with multiple volumes and multiple takes.  It’s a gentle way to introduce your kids to Dickens as they build Lego dynasties and play-dough castles.  Listen as you bake treats or wrap presents. Acclimate your kids to the cadence of old English using Jim Dale’s amazing narration.  Warm, friendly, and engaging his voice adds meaning to unfamiliar terms and character to the printed word.

These are only a few of our must to Christmas reads.  We’re always looking for more and more books to add to our Christmas lists.  Please leave a comment and let me know what books you and your family enjoy during Christmastime.

PS:  I love Christmas Books so much, I wrote one!  Check it out by clicking the picture below.  I hope you like it.  If you do, please consider leaving a review on Amazon.  Happy Christmas!

Ever heard of a 24 hour read a thon?  Here’s my post about my family’s first one. https://latenightcoffeemoms.com/2018/08/03/family-read-a-thon/
